Gabor Marton is the new manager of Vidi

The 53 year old was most recently in charge of ZTE FC.

Gabor Marton was named the new manager of MOL Fehervar FC on Wednesday afternoon. The 53 year old was most recently in charge of ZTE FC, having previously been coach at Siofok, PMFC, Kaposvar and Kozarmisleny.

His playing career saw him first with PVSK before coming through the youth ranks at PMSC. He would go on to make his professional debut with them in 1985. He was both a defender and midfielder with his next stop being with Belgium club KRC Genk. He would return back to Hungary and a period with Kispest Honved before moving abroad again to French side Cannes. PMSC was the next step before he moved to Israel where he played for Hapoel Kfar Saba, Hapoel Petah Tikva and Hapoel Tel-Aviv. He also played for Hapoel LeZion and returned back to his hometown club Pecs. His playing career ended in 2007 with Barcsi SC, but not before another period this time with Austrian side SV Gussing. He was a Hungarian title winner with Honved in 1992 and a cup winner with PMSC in 1990. Gabor Marton was also chosen as the best foreign player in Israel and helped Hapoel Tel Aviv to Cup success in 1999. He also represented Hungary 21 times between 1990-1995 and scored one goal.

"We constantly follow the work of the Hungarian coaches as the the improvement within Hungarian football cannot happen without them. Siofok, were managed by Gabor Marton, and he had a fresh uncompromising side that played with freedom as well as brave attacking football in the NB II championship and he was able to continue this in Zalaegerszeg as well in NB I, while at the same time there was a lot of pressure on the team to avoid relegation. If we talk about a lot of pressure in the case of ZTE FC, this is even more true in the case of Vidi. It is a nice, but very difficult task, but we are sure that he will solve it. After much conversation, it was outlined that he was one of our main candidates and eventually he was chosen. We are glad to be able to hand over the management of Vidi to a talented Hungarian coach, we wish him a lot of success! "- said sports director Zoltan Kovacs

"I am very happy to be the head coach of MOL Fehervar FC, but I also know that I am facing a big task. A person works hard so that he will get the chance to lead a team like Vidi, which is preparing for the European stage, and is fighting for the championship title and the Hungarian Cup domestically. The request came a little unexpectedly, but it also made me very happy. And this offer cannot be rejected. I look forward to working together and hope that I can grow up to the task and produce a successful season! ' - said Gabor Marton, the new head coach of Vidi
