The 2019/2020 season so far: October

We cover the third month of the current season below as we continue to look back.

The month of October saw five games made up of three OTP league matches, one in the Hungarian Cup and a friendly fixture. The new month kicked off with a home game against Debrecen. There were over 3,000 present inside the MOL Arena Sosto. An important three points were on offer and they were grabbed by Vidi. Goals from Kovacs and Musliu, either side of one from the visitors kept the red and blue at the top of the table.

A break in the league program meant that Vidi organized a friendly match in Budapest. The venue was Vasas' new stadium and those players who were not on international duty were given the chance to perform. There were three early goals with Vasas opening up inside 2 minutes. However, that goal was cancelled out with Funsho and Petryak claiming the friendly win. It was an important run-out to make sure Vidi were ready to cope with the games ahead of them.

Next up was a very tough match away at top three side Mezokovesd. It is never an easy place to go to and that is especially the case this season. Two very strong defences were out there on the pitch so there were never going to be too many goals. That proved to be the case as both teams had to make do with a single point in the 0-0 draw. However, it was still an important point for Vidi at the top of the league table.

The first big game against Ferencvaros was next. The match played at the MOL Arena Sosto saw over 12,000 pack into the new stadium. It was first against second and a game eagerly awaited by all. However, it would prove to be a frustrating evening with the visitors taking home all three points back to Budapest. Siger scored twice and although Milanov hit a late goal, it was not enough to grab the draw. The atmosphere inside the stadium was very good and confirmed that it is a very suitable stadium to provide exciting matchdays. It is worth noting that Krisztian Geresi, Szabolcs Huszti, Attila Fiola, Paulo Vinicius and Mate Patkai all missed the game. Things were made even more difficult after Roland Juhasz suffered an injury in the warm up and Adrian Rus had to step in at short notice.

The final game of October was an away fixture in the Hungarian Cup. The opponents were Tiszaujvaros in another testing challenge. Vidi put in a professional performance to progress through to the next round thanks to a 3-0 win. A first half goal from Hodzics were backed up by a double strike from Futacs towards the end. However, it would have been a very good month had Vidi managed to beat Ferencvaros in the big October game.
